Clear aligners are considered a major breakthrough in the revolution of cosmetic orthodontics, with aesthetic results reaching up to 99%. Some popular aligner brands today include Invisalign, VinciSmile, Zenyum, and Leetray. This is also the topic that Viet Bi Dental Clinic wants to present to you today, giving you the most realistic overview.
Not everyone can accept a “metal smile” with traditional braces, and many professions require a highly aesthetic smile and frequent communication (singers, MCs, actors, salespeople, etc.). Therefore, clear aligners are truly a breakthrough that Invisalign has opened up.
What are clear aligners? What are their key features?
What are clear aligners?
Clear aligners, also known as “invisible aligners,” are characterized by their high aesthetic appeal. The aligners are removable and do not require traditional brackets or wires. Most cases of misaligned teeth (overbite, underbite, gaps, crooked teeth, etc.) can be corrected with clear aligners.
Features of the transparent tray
-
Personalization: Each set of aligners is custom-made for each individual customer, not for use by others.
-
Aesthetics: The aligners are very difficult to see during the orthodontic treatment because their transparent color matches the color of the teeth.
-
Modernity: Clear aligners offer a modern look, along with the support of high-tech equipment (5D scanner for dental impressions; 3D orthodontic treatment plan, etc.).
-
Convenience & Comfort: Clear aligners move smoothly and gently, causing no pain, discomfort, or irritation, and are easy to remove for eating and cleaning.
-
Invisalign’s Exclusive Technology: SmartTrack is an exclusive orthodontic technology developed by Align Technology, characterized by three factors: high-tech materials; the ability to move tooth roots; and a design that optimizes the tooth movement process.
Popular brands of clear aligners
Invisalign (USA): The first and most popular clear aligner brand in the world today, with over 15 million customers having used it (as of August 2023).
VinciSmile (USA): Also one of the well-known aligner brands, offering good quality and reasonable costs. This brand is experiencing strong growth in Vietnam in 2023.
Clear Aligner (Germany): This brand is characterized by a three-stage aligner transition protocol: soft, medium, and hard, with relatively high accuracy.
Zenyum (Singapore): A relatively young Asian aligner brand, but with very dynamic development, applying many high technologies and establishing a firm position in the Vietnamese market.
The effectiveness of clear aligner braces
Treatment range
- Gapped teeth: Teeth have one or more large gaps between them.
- Crossbite: The upper and lower jaws are misaligned along the midline, lacking symmetry and order.
- Deep bite (or overbite): The upper jaw protrudes too much compared to the lower jaw. Overbite can be caused by bone, teeth, or both.
- Underbite (or receding jaw): The lower jaw protrudes compared to the upper jaw. When you are over 25 years old, a severe underbite is difficult to treat with braces and requires surgical intervention at a hospital.
- Crowded teeth: There are many causes for this, such as: Late extraction of baby teeth, narrow jaw, jaw frame not having enough space for teeth to erupt straight.
- Open bite, crossbite: The upper and lower jaws do not fit together at the front teeth.
The clear aligner orthodontic process
Step 1, Consultation: Listen to the doctor’s advice regarding your dental case after taking profile photos, X-rays, and a 3D scan to visually recreate your entire jaw.
Step 2, Treatment Plan: After a 5D scan of your entire jaw, a 3D treatment plan will be sent to you within 4-5 days. At Viet Bi Dental Clinic, the plan will be written by the primary doctor in charge at the clinic and the doctor from the aligner manufacturer to ensure the highest accuracy.
Step 3, Printing the aligners: As a rule, clear aligners are only printed after the customer has agreed to the 3D plan. You will receive your aligners after about 2-3 weeks, depending on the brand and the location of the manufacturing plant.
Step 4, Wearing the aligners: When the aligners arrive, the customer will be the first to “break the seal” on the box and check the number of aligners. The dentist will use the treatment plan attached to each patient’s aligner to advise and implement appropriate supportive measures (interproximal reduction, attachment, intermaxillary elastics, etc.).
Step 5, completion: After wearing the aligners as directed by the dentist, congratulations, you have completed your clear aligner orthodontic treatment. Don’t forget to wear your retainers for 1-2 years!
